Guitar Pro is where riffs get written, but its files only open in Guitar Pro (or compatible tab readers). MIDI is the universal exchange format: convert the tab and you can drive real instrument plug-ins with it, drop the drum track under your own recording, or import the whole arrangement into a DAW as the skeleton of a production.
It is also the practical route for collaboration - the drummer wants your programmed drums, but they use Logic; the producer needs the synth line, but they never bought Guitar Pro. A .mid file works for everyone, and this converter does not require buying or installing anything either.
The conversion preserves the musical layout in beats, so a quarter-note in the tab is exactly one beat in the MIDI file at any tempo. Bends and slides beyond plain notes are simplified - MIDI has no tablature semantics - but pitches, rhythm, velocities and track separation survive intact.

The notes and rhythms do; the technique markings are simplified, because standard MIDI files have no concept of tablature articulations. For driving instruments and arranging, this is rarely a problem.
